Cultural postcards
A postcard design inspired by my Taiwanese background.
My intention for these postcards was to share my Taiwanese heritage and culture through a medium that can travel the world, and there is nothing more effective in developing cultural appreciation and human connection than sharing food.

Originally, I considered incorporating Taipei 101, Taiwan’s most iconic building. However, I ultimately decided not to in order to keep the focus of the postcard on one idea.
Why Scallion Pancakes?
Growing up, my mother used to tell me a story about how, when she was little, her grandmother took her to a street market full of food stands. Craving a snack, my mom asked her grandmother for some money to buy a scallion pancake. Her grandmother handed her her wallet, but when she opened it, my mom realized a few dollars was all that was left inside, just enough money to buy the pancake. Guilty, but even more excited about the prospect of eating a scallion pancake, my mother took those last dollars and gleefully ate her snack. Scallion pancakes are just that good. But that generosity (and guilt) is something that stuck with my mother for the rest of her life, and she raised me with that same generosity and appreciation for food. Scallion pancakes were a staple snack for me growing up, and was one of the first things I ever learned to cook. Simply put, there is no better food to represent my heritage than this deliciously savory and flaky snack.
